Only one week away

Its like living in a tornado's wake...

It seems like it has taken forever but we close on our new home in one week. It amazing how things change and take shape.
We are both very excited for move in day! We spent all of last week packing and have pretty much finished up today. This gives us a week of 'rest' before we close and a week of moving stuff after work (the hard stuff to move) before we move everything.

Cooking with Kristel; What does a vegetairan eat

So everyone always asks me about what I eat. What do I eat I say? Food just normal food. I've since learned that I make more interesting dishes then most people I know. So I thought share my recipes on the blog and tell tell the world what does a vegetarian eat?!? So I will make this a feature on our blog. Here's what I need from my readers: a. do you like the name "cooking with kristel" or what a vegetarian eats" better? b. please feel free to try my recipes but if you do please tell me about it and if you likes it.

Today's Dish Crab Rangoon (fake crab) and Spicy Asian Stir Fry with Whole-Wheat Linguine
Recipes from http://chinesefood.about.com/od/crabrangoon/r/crabrangoon.htm and http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/10900
This was my first time making both dishes

Ok readers I need some more help. Do you want me to tell you how to make these things or just tell you about them and rate them? Today I'll just tell you about them and rate them.

Crab rangoon: I give them 3 out of 5 stars for my first try. The crab and cream cheese need to be blended very well together. The seasoning isn't the best in the recipe and I would like to tweek it to make it a 5 out of 5. Also if you make these make sure to really seal the edges well.

Spicy Asian Stir Fry: I give it a 3 out of 5. Following the recipe isn't always my thing but the first time I make something I try to stick to it pretty much. With this it was good but needed much tweeking in the way of more spicy and more flavor. It was pretty blah- but this is fixable
Ok now please leave me feedback so I can make this a better feature :)

It looks like a greenhouse in here!

Good Morning! I love a good Flex Friday!!
Thought I'd get in a brief post about yesterday's plants before I head off to work.
So yesterday we took all the tomatoes, John's birthday present (a dwarf lemon tree), potatoes, and the new tomato plants and repoted/planted everyone.
Our living room now looks like a greenhouse with plants everywhere.

So my life right now-plants and boxes, woofda! :)

PS that reminds me that we have set our house warming party for June 13th at 7pm! If you read this blog know that you are invited and will get an invite sometime in the next month. :)

Kathryn Visits; John turns 24

HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY JOHN!

Well its Monday again, I really don't like Mondays...especially when I have such fun on the weekends.
This last weekend we have Kathryn visiting us from Madison. She arrived on Thursday night for a medical/biology conference at the U. We had great fun chilling out at our place, eating out, and generally just chatting away. It was great to see her again!

On the Iowa River bridge after Dinner Saturday

Saturday we did some Geocaching out at Lake Macbride. We had fun hiking around in the woods and taking the long way around to get to our cache.
Sunday was also John's 24th birthday. I made him a 'beer bouquet' in honor of the big day. The Beer Bouque (should I go into business ;) )

I also got him one amazing present but haven't been able to give that to him yet as it is weather sensitive and thus wasn't able to ship till about 2 days ago. I hope it will be here tomorrow...
We did have a nice family birthday party with John's grandparents and parents which was fun.

24 candles all in one blow

end of our vaction to AL

We had such an interesting/odd/not planned trip. Lets see I left off on the Mt. hotel in AL.
From there we traveled back into TN because we saw the chance for serve weather was less and it would just be about as warm. Little did we know the bad weather would follow us.
After checking out another few campgrounds (with out a place for us to set up our tent) and the threat of hail and tornados we headed to Clarksville, TN and got a hotel room. From there we spent 2 days touring the area. We had a lot of fun spending time together and getting away from Iowa. However it didn't go as planned.

Stopping to smell the flowers (land between the lakes, KY)
Mt.Cheaha, AL
The rain that drove us northward
Parthanon (nashville, TN)

We got home Sunday night and camped out in the living room. Making smores on our grill and having a movie marthon. We'll have to try this camping thing again soon...I hope soon!
